Lessons

We started lessons on Sunday, so I'll tell you the lessons that i've had so far if it interests you, but it interests me so read.

My first lesson, which was a double lessons was hadracha/chinuch which is basically youth leadership training. My teacher is this american hippy guy with long flowing curly grey hair, but he's very good. Then I had another double lessons which was Israeli history and society, which is also good and the teacher happens to be the son of one of my dad's old friends.

Yesterday was kind of our Judaism day where we have 3 lessons on different Jewish things, the 3 types are to read, to do and to be. My to read class is exodus through the eyes of the traditional commentators which was really good, we looked at the first couple of verses and we had to translate it and pose questions and then next lesson we'll look for answers from the traditional commentators, and the teache is Rabbi Joel who's part of Kosher Klub (Noam) and he's really good. My to do lesson is also with him and it's titles Jewish Signs and Symbols, where we llook at jewish signs and symbols obviously and what they mean in our lives, which i think should be good though it's a bit weird. And my other one was titled 'Judaism - a flawed tradition) which basically looking and discussing the thing that we hate about judaism and studying them and looking at the reasons behind them. It's a really good class andit's also taught by someone involved in Kosher Klub, Dina, and when i walked into the classroom she said yay you're here and then said oh no you can't be in here you're not angry enough, so now i have to prove to her that i'm angry enough to be in her class. And my last lesson was Jewish cinema which was really good, as it was the first lessons we were just looking at and talking about how Jews are portrayed in films and what makes films jewish.

This morning we had a really long double Jewish History lessons which was also good just really long, we basically went through the whole Jewish time line to start the subject off and it took the whole lesson. Next I had Hebrew, which wasn't so good berause we had to take a hebrew test the other day to see how good we were but it doesn't seem like the classes correspond. In my class there are people my level and people who hardly know anything and it seems like that's happened in other classes too so we're going to talk to the hebrew coordinator. My teacher made us make a collage of ourselves from newspapers and then present it which was quite fun because we got to cut out and stick stuff but it was also a bit crap. My last lessons was cancelled but it's supposed to be Israel advocacy which is basically learning all about the current situtaion and how to talk about it in discussions, which is supposed to be really important at uni because there are loads of people who hate israel and zionism, so it's good that we know how to criticise and defend israel.
